1110 Wide Gape Dry Fly Hook

Finally got comfortable tying small dries using this hook. Oversized straight eye is key. Especially when using 18/0 nanosilk thread for the size 20, I never crowd the eye anymore, which is an issue when tying off a hackled head on down eye dry hooks or other hooks with smaller eyes. Good proportions and gap too.

At first I would often bend this hook while tying because it is very fine wire, but I think that was just bad technique on my part or maybe that was back when I used my older bobbin without tension adjustment, because I haven’t had that issue in a while.

This is a great dry fly hook. The straight eye gives a little more space on the smaller hook sizes AND the wider gap gives a little more for hook ups. I solely use these on all dry flies #18 and smaller flies.

I use these to tie a narrow version of the triangle bug plus traditional hoppers and crickets. I like the straight eye.
