I love having this at the bench to pinch down hooks as I tie them rather than doing it stream-side.

If you are tying flies in volume and have hands larger than a child, these wouldn’t be the ideal tool as the somewhat sharp ends of the short, uncoated handles start uncomfortably start pressing into your palm.

If tying for personal use, the low cost outweighs this minor downside.

Works well for pinching down small barbs and very nice that's it doesn't have teeth to get in the way. Appears well made as well. Would recommend.

Since you are always doing the responsible thing and mashing down your barbs why not do it at the vise and save the on-the-stream hassle? I had some needle nose pliers for mashing barbs and this really does a better job. These pliers have flat jaws that do a great job of mashing the barb clean and not marring the hook. It is not some display piece in terms of over all casting and manufacturing quality but, it is a tool that gets a job done well. And it's cheap.
