I have tied a lot of #12- #10 jig hook, bead head nymphs lately with different colors of leggy and sometimes flashy dubbing. I use a couple of strands of the peacock herl for the tail, then pull the other 3-4 strands I have on the tail up just behind the hook eye and tie them off- like a spiky shell back. Then I cut the 2 that are still on the tail short-1/8 to 1/4 of an inch. Colors I have tried have worked well for sunfish and small bass in the hill country rivers in Texas, and rivers further south in Texas.
